The New Year is just about to arrive, and you're rushing to create some resolutions that you plan to follow this year. Or at least, you hope.
New Year's resolutions were created as a way for us to better ourselves as the beginning of a new year approaches. We make a long list of the things we're going to do --and not going to do-- in the upcoming year. For some people that means starting a diet, going out more, or allowing themselves to indulge in their favorite books without feeling guilty all the time. For some, it means improving current relationships and finding new ones.
But not many people include their relationship with God, as a topic they need to consider when making these resolutions.
So as the New Year rings in (and you start to make your resolutions), ask yourself:
Have I been doing what God wants me to do?
Are there any areas where I can improve my walk with God? Obviously your answer should be 'Yes' to this question. Now, identify what those areas are.
How am I going to be able to put these resolutions in practice? While your plans may be long term, create baby steps that you can take to get there.
And then pray for God to help you to be able reach these goals (along with all your other ones). While you may not be able to keep the 'trivial' resolutions on your list, by praying, you ensure that you keep the focus of these goals on God, and remind yourself that you can't do it without Him.
